Working Group 3: Wind Energy Integration

Description

The scope of this Working Group work extends from the single (large) wind farm level (onshore and offshore) to the large-scale integration in the power system level. The layout and basic structure of the grid need to be adapted to large amounts of variable electricity supply.

Key areas in this thematic may include: Grid codes/communication standards, Grid structure and planning, Grid operation and energy management (prediction tools, probabilistic capacity planning, storage facilities), Energy market integration (converting stochastic wind energy production into energy market products, providing additional grid services to TSO´s and DSO´s).

Composition

A Working Group is composed of a small number (e.g. max. 20) of high-level persons willing to participate to the work of the Technology Platform. Working Groups members are selected from a call of expression of interest launched by the Secretariat. Selection is based on objective criterions, to be proposed by the Secretariat and to be validated by the Executive Committee of the Technology Platform.

Members

The Chairperson of Working Group 3 is Mrs. H. Holttinen (VTT - Technical Research Centre Finland). Mrs Holttinen was elected during the third Steering Committee meeting, in November 2007.

The Vice-Chairpersons of Working Group 3 are Mr. Kurt Rohrig (ISET) and Mr. Frans Van Hulle (EWEA). The Vice-Chairpersons were elected during the first TPWind General Assembly, in November 2007.

Members of the group were selected from a Call for Expression of Interest, launched by the Secretariat of the Technology Platform. This call ended on September 16th, 2007.
